Riverfest Winners Announced

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita Festivals, Inc. (WFI), a non-profit corporation with the purpose of creating diverse community celebrations, announces its winners in numerous events and giveaways that took place during Riverfest, May 8-16, 2009.

Kansas Lottery/ Big Dog Motorcycle
Second Chance Drawing
One lucky Kansas Lottery player won a custom Big Dog Motorcycle K-9 Chopper in a drawing held May 16 during Riverfest. Bobby Williams of Shawnee, Kan., was the grand prize winner in the Kansas Lottery’s Big Dog K-9 drawing. The grand prize includes a 2009 Big Dog Motorcycle K-9 Chopper, along with a merchandise package. The Lottery will also pays the mandatory income withholding taxes on the prize, bringing the value of the grand prize to approximately $43,500.

AirTran Airways Food Court Giveaway
Out of 100 names, Wyvonne Jones’ name was drawn to receive two roundtrip AirTran Airways tickets courtesy of AirTran Airways on Monday, May 11.

Star Million Dollar Hole-in-One
This year’s Star Million Dollar Hole-in-One event’s format was changed due to the conditions of the Arkansas River throughout the week of Riverfest. Instead of all Festival attendees getting their shot at one million dollars, local radio stations participated in contests to sign-up 14 contestants to compete for a chance at the prize money. Of the 14 that were entered, 10 participants showed up at Sim Park Golf Course on May 16. Though no one actually hit the million dollar shot, one contestant that hit the golf ball closes to the pin was Mitch Linn of Wichita. Linn won a $500 cash prize and four (4) complimentary rounds of golf at Sand Creek Station.

AirTran Airways Souvenir Store Giveaway
Carol Haynes was awarded two roundtrip AirTran Airways tickets courtesy of AirTran Airways in the Festival Souvenir Store giveaway.

1st Annual Funnel Cake Eating Contest
Sponsored by Sports Radio 1410 KGSO
James Bradley Price II was the winner of the first-ever funnel cake eating contest, downing 3.5 funnel cakes in 10 minutes. Price won a skybox party at a Wichita Wingnuts baseball game courtesy of Sports Radio 1410 KGSO.

Senseney Music Battle of the Corporate Bands
Out of the five corporate bands that competed in this first-year event, only one was named the winner of the Senseney Music Battle of the Corporate Bands. “Infusion” of Bombardier Learjet were named the winners and awarded a $1,000 gift certificate to Senseney Music.
